Loess ball
Yellow earth called loess is widely distributed globally including the northeastern area of China, Central Asia, the southern area of Russia, Middle Europe, North Africa, America, Argentina and New Zealand. The color tone of yellow earth is different according to regions and its color is generally red, brown, pale, yellow or thick brown. And loess is a nontoxic comfortable material with excellent chemical attraction and warm nature in which calcium oxide (CaO), potassium oxide (K2O), magnesium oxide (MgO) and sodium oxide (Na2O) including 85% silica (SiO2) and 15% aluminum oxide (Al2O2) as general ingredients are evenly distributed.

Physical properties of loess
- There is almost no change in the temperature of loess at 20°C during the four seasons in the country.
- The ingredients of yellow earth in the country are composed largely of silica (SiO2) which is the main component of sand.
- SiO2 which occupies the greater part of the loess ingredients has excellent chemical attraction, and increases the quantity of dissolved oxygen in water as the oxygen adsorption capacity is heightened when it is with water.
- The farther away from the source of supply the finer the loess particle and the more roundness increases
- Stagnant water layers are hardly formed in loess due to good permeability because the Void between particles is big as its particle is not smooth.
- The loess layer formed of fine particle matter does not easily collapse because of its good cohesion.
Characteristics of loess
The medicinal effects of loess are described in ancient literature like Dongeuybogam (a book about Oriental medicine Written by Huh Joon of Chosun dynasty of Korea in 1610). Hyangyakipsungbang (a book about Oriental medicine published by Chosun dynasty of Korea in 1433) and Jeungryuboncho (a Chinese medicine book), which are greatly utilized for reference and it is known as a mineral material beneficially used for neuralgia arthritis and rheumatism and for skin health because of its excellent detoxification features while it has a wide range of use besides fomentation and finger-pressure balls.
